Crappie fishing has been sporadic. They are suspended over deep water. The fish are concentrating on the pods of small bait fish. They can be caught on purple or chartreuse plastic with a 1/32 oz jig. Look for the fish just east of Willow Point or just west of the Yacht Club.
Walleye fishing has been all right. I’m catching a few every trip out. The best bait is lindy rigged nightcrawlers fished in about 18-19 ft of water. Chartreuse painted hooks seem to produce more bites for me.
Perch still remain in the shallow waters. They are on the hard bottom near points. On Saturday last week, the average size was very good. There was one keeper per five small ones, which is pretty good for Lake Geneva.
Bluegill fishing has been excellent also. Some of the bluegills are in the 3-4 ft. range spawning; others are still out in the deep waters 22-26 ft. preparing to spawn. Rock Bass and Bluegills are literally everywhere throughout the lake. The best depth of water has been 8-15 ft. of water. Nightcrawlers are producing most of the fish. It isn’t hard to go through 10-12 dozen nightcrawlers in a 4-hour guide party. I caught most of the larger rock bass west of Linn Pier.
Good action can be found in and around the piers in 5-6 ft of water. Fish them with a slip bobber and a leaf worm. Perch are in 10 ft of water. They are location is some of their standard areas such as Rainbow Point and Belvidere Park.
Walleye fishing is starting to pick up. The fish are starting to position on the weed breaks in 15-20 ft. of water. The best bait has been nightcrawlers. I’ve tried leeches several times but haven’t had any luck with them.
