Perch fishing has been pretty good. The fish have been biting on hellgrammites or ½ of a nightcrawler. The best depth has been 17-19 ft. The best location has been on the west end of the lake by the Island.
Walleye pike fishing for me has been pretty much non-existent. It’s basically just the time of year and where I’ve been fishing. The best approach is trolling deep diving crank baits along the weedline in the pre-dawn hours.
The jumbo perch are starting to show themselves. The best depth for them is the 7-9 ft range. I’ve caught quite a few by the Yacht Club and by the outlet by Lake Lawn Lodge. Either use hellgrammites or small nightcrawlers for the best bite.
Walleye fishing has been very slow for me. Last week, I tried trolling and lindy rigging leeches without success. We did have a bug hatch last week that typically turns them off. Fall has officially arrived on both the calendar and the temps. After about 10 days of high temps and high pressure, we’ve seen a significant drop and for the past few days high temps have struggled to get into the lower 70’s. Largemouth bass are biting again with the weather change.
Northern Pike are being caught in the shallow weed flats in 12-13 ft of water on White spinner baits or Chatter baits. The pike prefer a fast moving bait. The deep water sucker bite has been difficult all summer.
Northern Pike fishing has been okay in the shallow weed flats. The most action is coming out of 12-13 ft of water casting white spinner baits or medium diving fire tiger crank baits. Look for the fish on the west end, in Viewcrest or the Highlands. The sucker bite for me has been non-existent.
