Lake Geneva Fishing Report, 8/19/19 – 8/29/19

Smallmouth bass are actively feeding in 21-28 ft of water off the main lake points.  Look for hard bottom and scattered weeds.  They are aggressively hitting nightcrawlers and small yellow perch caught in Lake Geneva.  Some of the fish I caught were in excess of 20 inches.  For fishing the yellow perch, I use a […]

Bluegills have moved out into the 18-20 ft depth range.  My best spot is by Knollwood or by Elgin Club.  Use leaf worms on a split shot and single hook straight beneath the boat.  The fish are averaging 9 inches, so it’s actually been quite a bit better average than on Delavan.

Smallmouth bass have been sporadic.  With the spawn completed, they are chasing their dinner.  If you find a school of bait fish, you will find the smallmouth bass right behind them.  I’ve been either drop shotting 4 inch green pumpkin worms or slowly reeling in a jig and a grub tail.  The best depth has […]

Walleye fishing remains a constant bite in the overnight hours. Look for the fish in Trinkes Bay or by Knollwood bay. The best depth is 12-14 ft of water. Trolling medium diving stick baits has been the best presentation.

Bluegill fishing remains excellent in the 18-20 ft depth range. The best location has been by Elgin Club or the Lake Geneva Yacht Club. You want to fish leaf worms, 6 inches to 1 foot off bottom. The schools are very large and are visible on your graphs and fish finders. I like to use […]

Northern pike fishing has been good in 33-36 ft of water. The fish are by Black Point, Fontana Boat Channel or in the narrows on the north shore. You want to lindy rig chubs or suckers with a 24 inch leader right on bottom. I use monofilament leaders to insure more bites, a steel leader […]

For me this year, Lake Geneva has been slightly off from normal years. I haven’t found the big concentration of schooling fish very often. There are plenty of fish to be caught, but its not as rapid fire as we’ve experienced in the past.

Northern Pike fishing is starting to improve with the warming water. The fish are associating to the weed line in 18-22 ft of water. The best location has been by Williams Bay, Geneva Bay or the boat launch in Fontana. In the next week or so, the thermocline should be forming which will push the […]
