Rock bass fishing is starting to improve significantly. Most of the fish are in 12-15 ft of water. They have been biting on nightcrawlers, minnows, or any other available bait.
Look for the fish at Lake Lawn Lodge or Viewcrest Bays. A secondary approach is using a slip bobber rigged with medium suckers.
Look for the fish by Elgin Club or by Crawford’s bar. Crappies have been hit or miss. One day they are in by the boat docks thick, and the next they’ve moved into deeper water.
Crappie fishing has been good in the mid-range weeds. You want to fish them in 6-10 feet of water. The best location is by Browns Channel. You want to look for scattered weeds.
Largemouth bass fishing has been sporadic. The only active fish being caught are in Abbey Harbor or Geneva Bay. This year, Trinkes Bay was dredged out, and the water clarity is very low.
Walleyes are biting during low-light conditions. They are biting on crankbaits, chrome/blue Husky Jerks, or chrome/blue Smithwick Rogues. You want to fish in 6-8 ft of water. The best location is the Yacht Club and Village Supper Club.
Crappies do suspend in the water column so you will need to adjust your presentation to the mood of the fish. I like to start about 1 foot to 18 inches above the weed growth.
Clear water again makes it challenging, I have found that long casts are a must so the fish don’t get spooked. Keep moving to find a feeding school of fish. Because these crappies are pre-spawn they can be very big so keep a small net handy.
